Billie Piper felt the wrath of TV viewers after she made her debut in new BBC drama, Collateral.

The 35-year-old star was chastised by fans after one scene saw her character Karen accept a pizza from a delivery driver before tossing it onto the floor.

Viewers reacted in shock to her treatment of the doughy treat, with one accusing her of being “disrespectful”.

Piper addressed the backlash over her pizza flinging, assuring fans she would “never again” toss a pizza to the floor.

She tweeted a gif of the moment in question, posting: “Okay guys, I’m hearing you loud and clear... never again! #Collateral.”

Viewers were severely unimpressed by Piper's onscreen actions, with many struggling to concentrate on the plot after failing to find answers to why she threw the pizza.

One user tweeted: “Blimey! Remind me not to deliver Billie Piper pizza in future #Collateral.”

Another wrote: “It’s so great to see Billie Piper back on screen again. A big fan of hers but she made me angry when she threw the pizza on the floor. I mean, come on, you never do that to pizza!”

Piper later described the moment as her "most controversial career move so far".

Piper is among a star studded cast including John Simm, Nicola Walker, Hayley Squires and Carey Mulligan in the David Hare drama.

Episode one kicked off with the murder of a pizza delivery driver outside Piper’s character’s London mansion block.

The show went head-to-head with psychological-thriller Trauma on ITV, also starring Simm, whose character loses his son to a doctor who appeared to make a mistake during an operation.
