No clash: Love Island and Big Brother will air on separate dates

Big Brother and Love Island have announced that the finales of both shows will take place on different days avoiding a scheduling clash.

A spokesperson for Big Brother announced that the finale of the current series will air on July 28, meanwhile it was confirmed on the Love Island twitter page that the last episode of its 2017 run will air on July 24.

The decision allows Big Brother to avoid another ratings-compromising scheduling clash, after being decisively overtaken by ITV2’s dating show in viewing figures over the past few weeks.

While Love Island has been enjoying audience highs of 2 million, Big Brother’s ratings have at times fallen to lows of around 500,000, despite the Channel 5 show beating its reality TV rival in their launch night battle.

Attempts to spice up the show by adding new housemates and dating challenges have done little to boost its falling figures.

BB bosses will be hoping that once Love Island wraps up all eyes will be on the final few episodes of the civilian run and that its unpopularity won’t affect the upcoming celebrity series due to start in the next few weeks.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 while Big Brother continues at 10pm on Channel 5.
