A Very English Scandal is the newest three-part drama to air on BBC One.

The hour-long episodes tell the story of British MP Jeremy Thorpe and his romance with Norman Scott from their early relationship to how things turned sour fast.

Written by BAFTA winning writer Russell T Davies and based on the book by John Preston, the drama has an all-star cast sure to entertain us on Sunday evenings.

What is A Very English Scandal?

The three episode programme follows the relationship between Jeremy Thorpe and Norman Scott, two lovers who are soon at loggerheads as Scott grows unhappy with being kept a secret while Thorpe’s career takes off.

Thorpe, and MP and leader of the Liberal Party, is the youngest leader of any political party in a hundred years knows his career could be in peril as long as Scott is around.

With this in mind, Thorpe turns to his friends to help him silence Scott for good – later ending up on trial but acquitted for plotting to murder Scott.

Who is in the cast?

Notting Hill and Love Actually star Hugh Grant plays Jeremy Thorpe while Spectre actor Ben Whishaw stars as Norman Scott.

Also among the cast, Monica Dolan stars as Marion Thorpe, The Crown’s Alex Jennings is Peter Bessell and David Napely is played by Jonathan Hyde.

Eve Myles, Patricia Hodge, Jason Watkins, Blake Harrison, Adrian Scarborough and Michele Dotrice also star.

When is A Very English Scandal on?

Episode one airs on Sunday 20 May at 9pm on BBC One, available shortly after on BBC iPlayer.
