The life of Hurricane Higgins is an unusual topic for a show, but it works

When it was announced at last year's Edinburgh Festival that there would be a play about Alex 'Hurricane' Higgins, the idea didn't exactly set critics alight.

Which was why they were surprised to be blown away by this one-man show, which boasts Richard Dormer as a mesmerising evocation of the snooker star, hurtling through the highs and lows of drugs, drink, and too much damn talent.

It transferred to the Soho to acclaim, and having got a taste for the West End, now goes on to the Arts. Go and be surprised.
