The Steve Irwin of stand-up

Triple Perrier Award nominee Adam Hills.

Triple Perrier Award nominee Adam Hills is the Steve Irwin of stand-up. Like his crocodile-hunting compatriot, Hills has an infectious energy that turns his gigs into inclusive, lifeaffirming affairs. This belated transfer of his 2004 Edinburgh show brightens the bleakest of moods despite not being his finest hour.

There is certainly variety here, from trademark banter to wince-making accounts of nipple piercing to a mini-Michael Moore-ish tirade against Disney. His reality TV material felt overfamiliar, but the Aussie uncorked a fresh angle on American idiocy: "They think Jacob's Creek is where Dawson's cousin lives."

Allegations about Mickey Mouse form the comedic backbone, although the critique lacks a knockout punch. Technical problems delayed the dramatic unveiling of a pivotal picture, yet when it eventually appeared it was hard to see what the fuss was about.

There was a more effective big finish, blending a subtle backreference with some low-budget, high-kicking music and choreography. Not a show to make a song and dance about, but Hills treading water still beats most acts pulling out the stops.

Until 5 November. Information: 0870 429 6883.
