The play that goes wrong ... goes very right as cast prepare for full West End run at the Duchess Theatre

It's called The Play That Goes Wrong — and the cast members have had plenty of real-life mishaps along the way, including a broken foot and a dislocated shoulder.

But accidents aside it’s now going right, big time, as the cast prepare for a full West End run at the Duchess Theatre in September. The show is the creation of a group of actors who met at Lamda and founded Mischief Theatre.

They opened it as a one-act show at the Old Red Lion in Islington last year before going on a 21-week national tour, including a stint at the Trafalgar Studios where they were spotted by a producer.

The farce introduces the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, who are trying to put on a murder mystery. Co-writer Henry Shields said: “We have every single gag possible. The set falls down. People get injured and knocked out. It takes a lot of skills to convincingly play this badly.” And, sometimes, the split-second comic timing results in real injuries …

Previews begin on September 5.
