Sinderfella is a camped-up drag-fest

No pun intended: Sinderfella
10 April 2012

There’s no doubt that a market for "adult panto" exists. Not everyone wants festive theatre twee and twinkly, so a good filthy knees-up would certainly hit a number of G-spots. Just imagine the fun the likes of Stephen Fry could have penning such a show.

It’s a shame, then, that the best writer-director Simon Gross can manage for this camped-up drag-fest is the actors endlessly telling each other, as well as the audience, to "f*** off", and interspersing this hilarity with countless run-throughs of popular songs. The cast are pleasingly spirited and Adam Strong’s Prince Donkey Dick has a lovely voice but when star billing goes to someone from series eight of Big Brother (Kat "Cookie Monster"), we long for it to be "behind us"— and no pun intended.
