Satire with a tequila twist

La Cuchilla

Astrid Hadad's outrageous performance style brings together bolero, jazz, rumba, and rock.

Accompanied by her troupe, Los Tarzanes, and wearing lurid costumes that could almost double up as stage sets, she makes humorous and provocative statements about the world from her Mexican perspective.

Her cabaret-style characters include the Aztec Nun and the Postmodern Catholic, and her visual references take in everything from the works of Diego Rivera to the Statue Of Liberty. It's satire with a tequila twist.

From Tue 15 Jun, Lyric Hammersmith, 2 King Street, W6 (0870 050 0511).
