Dirt is way too vague for us to care

Dirt: the story of an illegal iraqi immigrant in a big Western city
10 April 2012

Schneider’s Dirt, a big hit in the German-speaking world, gives us 70 twisty monologue minutes in the company of an illegal Iraqi immigrant.

Sad, a frustratingly unreliable narrator, sells roses in a big Western city to eke out a bleak existence, and reels off toxic preconceptions about the "foreigner" with such ferocity that we almost believe he’s on the side of the stereotypers.

Christopher Domig fixes individual audience members in his disconcertingly direct gaze and addresses entire passages to them, but it’s all too vague for us to care much.
