Cybill Disobedience

Cybill Shepherd's kids run from the room when she starts singing
Siobhan Murphy|Metro10 April 2012

There are two telling moments in actress Cybill Shepherd's onewoman show.

First, she tells us with a smile that she was always a daddy's girl. The second moment is when she announces her children always disappear whenever she opens her mouth to sing. This is because, with the best will in the world, she can't.

To be honest, if this weren't Cybill - cover girl, seducer of Elvis, star of Moonlighting - you would never pay to hear such murdered standards and mawkish self-penned songs. But Shepherd ploughs on regardless, filling the majority of her hour slot with singing.

This leaves little time for anecdote: the Elvis incident is read verbatim from her book and there are a few digs at Bruce Willis but really nothing revelatory. There are occasional flashes of the feisty, funny woman you came expecting to see. But, ultimately, you come away with the feeling you've watched an over-indulged little girl.
