Hitting the big-time: Jay McGuiness in the original Theatre Royal Plymouth production
Alastair Muir

A musical adaptation of movie classic Big will open in the West End this year.

Jay McGuiness will take on the role made famous by Tom Hanks in the 1988 film, having first starred in the show in 2016 at Theatre Royal Plymouth.

The film tells the story of 12-year-old Josh, whose wish to be big comes true when he ends up in the body of a 30-year-old. The film features the now iconic scene where Josh plays a giant walking piano.

Big will have its West End premiere at the Dominion Theatre, where it will run for nine weeks from September. The musical first opened on Broadway in 1996, and was subsequently nominated for five Tony Awards.
