Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke is transferring to the West End, following its sold out revival at the Almeida Theatre.

Stars Patsy Ferran and Matthew Needham reprise their roles as Alma and John, who meet one summer in Mississippi, but their differing desires and obligations clash.

They are joined by the rest of the cast from the February production, including Eric MacLennan, Nancy Crane, Tok Stephen, Anjana Vasan, Forbes Masson and Seb Carrington.

The rarely staged play runs at the Duke of York’s Theatre from November 10 until January 19 next year, with Almeida associate director Rebecca Frecknall directing, design from Tom Scutt, lighting by Lee Curran, sound by Carolyn Downing and composition by Angus MacRae.

Summer and Smoke was first performed on Broadway in 1948, but only made a London premiere in 2006, with Rosamund Pike and Chris Carmack playing the leads at the Apollo Theatre.

Tickets go on sale on Wednesday June 13.
