Thousands of women, girls and non-binary people will descend on the streets of London, Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh on Sunday June 10 for a coordinated living artwork.

Donning violet, white and green - the Suffragette colours - participants will move together like rivers of colour through the four cities at the same time.

Commissioned by 14-18 NOW, the UK’s arts programme for the First World War centenary, and produced by arts charity Artichoke, PROCESSIONS celebrates 100 years since the first British women won the right to vote.

100 organisations across the UK have been commissioned to create banners together with female artists, which will be carried through the procession, showing the dreams, worries and achievements of 21st century women.

It’s completely free to take part in and you don’t have to register or sign up in advance, just show up on the day. Participants will be given a scarf in white, green or violet to wear and choreographed into sections.

Helen Marriage, director of Artichoke, said this is an invitation for women, girls and non-binary people across the country “to become part of a vast artwork that will celebrate what was achieved 100 years ago, and asks what that means to women today.

“Individuals and groups up and down the country will be at the heart of PROCESSIONS, and the response from organisations, artists and communities wanting to work with us has been overwhelming.

“I salute the thousands of women who have embraced the idea of PROCESSIONS and, following in the footsteps of their Suffragette and Suffragist ancestors, will create an unforgettable image that will commemorate 100 years of women voting in a joyful inclusive occupation of our city streets.”

The assembly point is on Park Lane at 12:15 for a 2pm start to the 2.6 mile walk, ending on Abingdon Street.
