What is the sound of fear? Londoners offer their thoughts ahead of Jaws in Concert at the Royal Albert Hall

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the concert hall...Jaws in Concert is coming to the Royal Albert Hall.

To mark the occasion the Royal Albert Hall has asked Londoners to describe the sound of fear.

In the video above patrons of the iconic music venue were first asked to describe what fear sounded like, with responses ranging from "vicious thunder" to "my mum saying my full name".

They were then played John Williams' suspense-filled score and asked if they recognised it - everyone did. One person said it made "the hairs on the back of [their] neck stand up".

Dr Vasco Hexel from the Royal College of Music said, "John Williams' score for Jaws is remarkable on many levels.

"It is extraordinary because it is built from just two notes and establishes the idea that a recurring figure of two notes can be an effective scoring tool.

"Few composers have been able to match the high level of economy that this score presents.”

As part of the Royal Albert Hall’s annual Festival of Film, running until Friday November 3, Jaws in Concert will be screened on October 21 and 22 alongside the BBC Concert Orchestra playing the iconic score live.
