It's funny how the youngest bands seem to be the ones most enthralled by the distant past. Like their fellow teenyboppers The Strypes and Jake Bugg, 1963 must seem as far away as 1763 to The Orwells, but maybe that's what makes their take on dusty, Nuggets-era garage rock so exciting. They play with the irrepressible energy of kids to whom this is all brand new.

The quintet formed in school in the Chicago suburbs and have risen fast - earlier this month they could be found supporting Arctic Monkeys at Madison Square Garden in New York. There was a raw, rowdy debut album in 2012 but all eyes will be on the next one, currently being recorded with Monkeys and Adele producer Jim Abiss and due in the summer. Singer Mario Cuomo is a watchable livewire, as we can discover first hand when they play two London gigs next week. Make the most of the opportunity to see them somewhere small.
