One of the very best festivals in the country for new music is almost upon us.

The Great Escape, which is now in its 14th year, will take over multiple venues in Brighton and pack them with scores of excellent emerging artists from both this country and abroad.

If you already have a ticket for the festival, or if you’re looking to buy one at the last minute, this is everything you need to know.

When is the Great Escape festival?

The festival will run for four days, May 8-11, although the bulk of the programming is scheduled for Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Where is the Great Escape festival?

Based in Brighton, the festival will be spread across more than 30 of the city’s venues, all of which are within walking distance of each other.

Some well-known establishments are involved, such as Brighton Dome, Concorde 2 and even Brighton Beach, which will host a number of stages. Elsewhere, there are gigs taking places in churches, hotels, pubs and beyond.

Check out this map of all the venues taking part.

Who is on the Great Escape festival line-up?

Lewis Capaldi and Foals are the two biggest names on the line-up, both of whom will be playing gigs as part of the festival’s Spotlight series. These are standalone events and are separately ticketed — a festival wristband won’t grant entry here. Unfortunately, tickets for both these shows have already sold out.

Fear not, however, as there is an incredibly diverse music offering elsewhere to keep you occupied. More than 500 emerging artists will descend upon the festival, from both the local area and much farther afield.

Yves Tumor, Black Midi, Jaykae and Object Blue are some of the most exciting rising musicians on the bill, with AJ Tracey, Anna Calvi and Little Simz among the pick of the more established acts.

The joy here, though, is in discovering your new favourite artist — so go out and find them. The full line-up can be seen here.

Are there tickets left for the Great Escape festival?

Three-day festival passes are still available, as are individual day tickets for Thursday and Saturday, although Friday has sold out.
