No, that isn’t a typo, and nor is it a stage name, says the man christened by his Bowie worshipping parents.

You can file him alongside other punning aliases that are confusing the short-sighted on posters across town, such as Kane West, Chet Faker and my personal favourite, Orlando Boom.

Kent man Zowie is an underground house musician, which is code for “nobody knew who he was”, but that’s changing at the ripe old age of 32 thanks to his monster tune, House Every Weekend.

He cut up a vocal sample in which a woman was originally complaining about “staying in the house every weekend”, added a weighty bassline and turned it into a slogan for the partying masses.

Belgian DJ The Magician put it in one of his mixes last September and Radio 1’s Annie Mac picked it up from there. Its popularity has now grown to the extent that in the next few days it could well make the leap from 52 on the current singles chart to number one. Mum and Dad might prefer to listen to Bowie's Let’s Dance, but its their boy who’s making bodies move this summer.
