1/10
Jochan Embley28 October 2019

A returning pop icon, reunited rap stars and an actor-turned-jazzman — they’re all among the artists releasing new music in November.

It looks like it’s going to be an excitingly varied month. We’ve got some alt-R&B, a bit of indie pop, a dash of Syrian dabke and even a festive collection of Christmas tunes.

As ever, many of the musicians dropping new material will be touring to support it, so we’ve listed all of their upcoming London gigs below.

These are the albums you need to hear in November.

The best gigs in London this November

Gang Starr — One of the Best Yet (November 1)

Guru and DJ Premier return with their first album as Gang Starr in 16 years. Expect guest verses from the likes of Q-Tip, J Cole and Talib Kweli.

Jeff Goldblum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra — I Shouldn’t Be Telling You This (November 1)

Best known as an actor, Jeff Goldlbum has been making a name for himself as a good-time jazz pianist, too. Anna Calvi and Sharon Van Etten are among the features.

Sudan Archives — Athena (November 1)

This Los Angeles-based artist has been honing her violin-infused brand of modern R&B on a series of EPs and is now ready to release her debut full-length album.

Where to see them live: Rough Trade East (in-store), November 18 / Corsica Studios, November 19

Celine Dion — Courage (November 15)

The Goddess of Pop delivers her first English-language album in six years. The first singles suggest a modern, rousing pop style for her big comeback.

Where to see them live: September 17 and 18, 2020, The O2

DJ Shadow — Our Pathetic Age (November 15)

The acclaimed hip-hop producer returns with a 23-track double album alongside an array of contributors — Run The Jewels, Nas and Future Islands’ Samuel T Herring among them.

Shanti Celeste — Tangerine (November 15)

Shanti Celeste, a perennial favourite in London’s clubland, comes through with her debut album after years of EPs. The first single, Voz, is a dubby, hypnotic thumper.

Where to see them live: November 8, Corsica Studios

Tei Shi — La Linda (November 15)

Even If It Hurts, the first single released from Tei Shi’s forthcoming second album, is a luscious collaboration with Blood Orange. Further indie pop explorations are set for the rest of the record.

Coldplay — Everyday Life (November 22)

Chris Martin and co aren’t exactly known for their “experimental” songwriting, but that’s exactly what they’ve promised us on this forthcoming double album. It will be their first studio release since A Head Full of Dreams in 2015.

Omar Souleyman — Shlon (November 22)

The Syrian vocalist returns with this new album, where he’ll sing love poetry over an electrifying mash-up of techno, dabke and baladi.

Where to see them live: February 6, EartH

Robbie Williams — The Christmas Present (November 22)

Robbie’s back, and this time round he’s releasing his first ever Christmas album. He’ll squeeze in 24 tracks, made up of classic covers and a few originals. Oh, and Tyson Fury features on one of the tracks.

Where to see them live: December 16, SSE Arena Wembley
