Miley Cyrus - Younger Now, review

David Smyth29 September 2017

Miley Cyrus took the child-star-gone-bad thing about as far as she could around the time of her 2013 album, Bangerz, then missed the charts altogether with her stoned Flaming Lips dalliance, Miley Cyrus & Her Dead Petz.

Now, in perhaps the most shocking development of all, the 24-year-old is fully clothed and duetting with Dolly Parton on a collection of beautiful, emotional country rock.

The Dolly track, Rainbowland, is a delight, loose and energetic with a positive political message. The rest is similarly under-produced, relaxed and consistently charming.

Ballads such as Miss You So Much and Malibu can sit confidently beside the work of more credible, less popular singer-songwriters such as Jenny Lewis or The Pierces, which may diminish her superstar status but makes her music more appealing than it has ever been.
