The sight of a red-faced ex-Tory prime minister at Wilderness last weekend was enough to put even the most dedicated raver off festivals forever.

But it looks like Houghton Festival, the newest addition to the UK electronic music calendar, will show the doubters that Brits still know how to put on a party.

Produced by the team behind Gottwood in Wales, and curated by renowned Fabric resident Craig Richards, the three-day festival will take place in the grounds of Houghton Hall in Norfolk this weekend.

Ricardo Villalobos, the Chilean-born minimal DJ, will headline with a solo set, as well as appearances from Nicholas Jaar, Seth Troxler and Floating Points.

Even Dalston bar Brilliant Corners is making the journey up from Kingsland Road for the weekend, collaborating with the Analogue Foundation by kitting out a wooden yurt for their new Giant Steps sound system.

Music and sculpture collides at this unique festival

Billed as the only summer festival that fuses music and sculpture, the acts will be set against the backdrop of Houghton’s sculpture park, which boasts work from visionaries including James Turrell, Richard Long, Zhan Wang and Rachel Whiteread.

Richards, a Central Saint Martins graduate, will be arranging art tours of the estate’s park, and has also published a book featuring hand drawn images representing the 96 artists performing.

Pitch Village is providing pre-erected tents, along with hot showers, clean toilets and phone charging facilities for the glampers out there.

And for punters that are feeling a bit low, the Compliments & Flattery installation will be inviting festivalgoers to sit in their uplifting tent, and be showered with sweet nothings.
