The Sugarhill Gang

Sept 3, Jazz Cafe, NW1 (0844 847 2514, thejazzcafelondon.com)

Thirty seven years since they hit the charts with Rapper’s Delight, few could have predicted that hip hop would now dominate the charts or that the sound’s pioneers would still be gigging.

Teenage Fanclub

Sept 5, Islington Assembly Hall, N1 (020 7527 8900, islington.gov.uk/assemblyhall)

The jangly indie veterans, favourites of Kurt Cobain, are back with their first album in six years and can still manage those sweet harmonies.

The Jayhawks

Sept 6-7, Islington Assembly Hall, N1 (020 7527 8900, islington.gov.uk/assemblyhall)

The Minnesota country rock band, now led solely by Gary Louris, recently released a new album produced by Peter Buck of REM.

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds

Sept 6, O2 Academy Brixton, SW9 (0844 477 2000, o2academybrixton.co.uk)

Gallagher senior wraps up the gigging around his second solo album with this finale show. Now the calls for an Oasis reunion will surely get even louder.

Unity Rocks: The Libertines

Sept 7, O2 Academy Brixton, SW9 (0844 477 2000, o2academybrixton.co.uk)

The reunited indie favourites play a one-off charity show in support of Unity Rocks, a new organisation founded by their drummer Gary Powell.
