Craig David - Following My Intuition review: 'He's earned his second chance'

Comeback: Craig David's Following My Intuition
Andre Paine30 September 2016

Craig David was our biggest R&B star until Bo’ Selecta! made it impossible to take him seriously — though in truth, it was cheesy ballads as much as mockery that contributed to his decline.

Still only 35, David has had the last laugh with a comeback that’s secured his first arena tour in 15 years.

Perhaps it’s just his moment for the nostalgia dividend — there’s certainly nothing groundbreaking here. At least David’s on form as he unleashes his rapid-fire vocal over the familiar, bouncy beats on One More Time, Ain’t Giving Up and When the Bassline Drops.

There’s even an artful reworking of debut solo single Fill Me In. The ballads are still a problem, though Don’t Go benefits from its pummelling chorus.

Craig David’s earned his second chance.
