Grunge titans Pearl Jam have been confirmed as the first headliners for next year's BST Hyde Park – formerly the British Summer Time festival – and will note the occasion by becoming the first band to play two consecutive nights at the event.

Marking their biggest ever London gigs, the Better Man rockers will play the festival on July 9, supported by grunge stablemates Pixies, and on July 10, when Bristolian provocateurs Idles will join them. Tickets will be available individually for each show, though a two-day pass will also go on sale.

Both Pearl Jam and Pixies were originally due to play this year's BST festival, which was cancelled in April owing to the pandemic. Fans who bought tickets to this summer's cancelled show will have priority for rebooking a two-day pass, with tickets available from Tuesday October 8 at 10am. Otherwise, general sale tickets will be available to the public from Saturday October 10 at 10am. Prices start at £70 plus booking fee, and can be bought here.

Jim King, CEO of European Festivals at AEG Presents, which looks after BST Hyde Park, said: “We couldn't be happier to be back and we can’t wait to bring everyone together with BST Hyde Park 2021, for what could be the most memorable British Summer Time ever.

"Pearl Jam jumped at the chance to celebrate after having to cancel their show this year and we are honoured that they agreed to play two consecutive nights, a first for BST. As their fans know, they are the perfect artists for such an unprecedented double bill.”

Pearl Jam are considered one of the most successful alternative rock bands of all time, having sold more than 85 million albums. They were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2017 by American late-night host David Letterman, who was standing in for an ill Neil Young.
