Boomtown 2022: Lineup, tickets, weather and everything else you need to know

It’s back this summer with a re-imagined version of the festival, called Chapter One: The Gathering

Boomtown is a refreshing gem in the UK music festival scene with past line ups including a diverse mix of bands and artists, such as Gorillaz, Shy FX, Chase and Status, Wu-Tang Clan, and Limp Bizkit,

The 13-year-old festival is normally held during the height of summer, but in an unfortunate turn of events, Boomtown was cancelled in 2020 due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Disappointment followed in 2021 when organisers were forced to cancel the festival again, with a lack of government financial support to cover Covid-related cancellations for music festivals.

It’s good news this time though, as Boomtown is back with a bang, with the title Chapter One: The Gathering. They’ve got a few twists in store for us this year—here’s everything you need to know.

When and where is Boomtown 2022?

The festival is taking place at the Matterley Estate near Winchester, Hampshire, its home since 2011. Boomtown starts on Wednesday, August 10, and runs until Sunday, August 14.

Boomtown line up

Boomtown is running things a bit different this year for Chapter One: The Gathering, and the lineup is yet to be announced. The festival has made the decision to keep it top secret but promises a phenomenal and diverse range of artists.

“We have spent months debating whether this was the right thing to do and what is clear is that there are many aspects to the way the music industry is run that simply don’t work for independent festivals,” its site reads. “The complex process of releasing a music line-up with exclusivity deals, billing and escalating costs have led us to decide that this is the time to rethink the way we approach it and explore new ways of doing things.”

In “Boomtown World”, expect new stages, venues, technologies, sound systems, creative shows and theatrical experiences. More info on market stalls will be available soon.
