Bombay Bicycle Club will play their biggest ever live show at Earls Court this year, and could be the last band to play at the venue.

The north London four-piece will be capping off a hugely successful 12 months which saw their fourth album — So Long, See You Tomorrow — top the charts.

They announced today that they will perform at Earls Court on December 13, which is likely to be the last ever headline show there as plans have been approved to redevelop the site into flats.

Since opening in 1937, the arena has hosted some of the biggest names in music including Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Queen and David Bowie.

Singer Jack Steadman said: “If we are the last band ever to play there, it would be perfect. We will be very, very nervous beforehand. When we did Alexandra Palace [in 2012] we were s**tting ourselves, but we always seem to rise to the occasion. We’ll probably just have to drink more before we go on stage. Either that or start punching each other.”

Steadman revealed why the band chose the venue over its newer rival The O2 in Greenwich: “We had a choice between Earls Court and The O2 arena. We went to visit The O2 and we thought it was a bit of a weird vibe. So much of it is seated and we wanted as many people as we could get standing. We want it to be special — we’re putting up sound absorbers to get it sounding right. We’re putting a lot of effort in.”
