The Museum of London will be turning the flash on for a new major photography exhibition, which will focus on the capital after dark.

Opening next month, London Nights will examine the capital in its nocturnal hours through over 200 example of historical and contemporary photography.

The exhibition will explore three themes to show how the city’s character changes after the sun sets.

‘London Illuminated’ will look at the way artificial lighting changes the look of London, ‘Dark Matters’ will explore the sinister connotations of night-time, and ‘Switch On Switch Off’ will chronicle the way we work, rest and play after dark.

Images will range from artistically conceived works to documentary photographs. Photographers featured in the show include legendary mid-century artist Bill Brandt, whose image of a wartime underground bomb shelter will be displayed in the exhibition, and the work of contemporary street photographer Nick Turpin.

In order to get into the spirit of things, he museum will be open after-hours on every Friday of the exhibition’s run, so visitors can get the full nocturnal experience.

London Nights will run at the Museum of London from May 11 to November 11 2018. For more information visit museumoflondon.org
