Pokémon Sword and Shield's final expansion which will add a new snowy region to the game has now been given an official October release date.

This Crown Tundra expansion will be available on October 22 as paid downloadable content. The new region will be available to explore, complete with new characters to meet, Pokémon to capture, and quests to complete.

Also coming in the Crown Tundra update is the addition of Pokémon Dens, which you can explore and meet Legendary Pokémon like the variants of the OG three birds – Articuno, Zapdos and Moltres – as well as entirely new mythical Pokémon.

Niantic announced all the new features in a special live stream.

In Crown Tundra, you and three other trainers will be able to explore caves in a new Dynamax Adventure mode, which allows you to take on special Dynamax Pokémon and claim them for yourselves.

Once you finish the game, you'll be able to take part in the Galarian Star Tournament. This post-game content will allow you to fight with and against trainers throughout Sword and Shield, giving you plenty to do even after the credits roll.

Right now in Pokémon Sword and Shield, players can claim up to eight different versions of Pikachu, sporting a variety of fashionable caps.

You can unlock them by using the Mystery Gift passwords using the in-game menu, but first, you'll have to find these passwords in various locations.

The first one, however, is being given out for free. This Pikachu is wearing Ash Ketchum's original cap from the anime series and to get this special Pokémon you just need to enter the password P1KACHUGET.

The first planned DLC, The Isle of Armour, was released yesterday, with Crown Tundra set to be the final expansion DLC for Pokémon Sword and Shield. The next time we hear about a big Pokémon game, it might well be the next one in the series.

The Crown Tundra expansion will be released on October 22 on Nintendo Switch.

Pokémon Sword and Shield are out now. You can buy the season pass to unlock both expansions here.
