Sony has announced October’s PlayStation Plus monthly games, and they include a triple-A big hitter.

Next’s month’s PlayStation Plus “free” games are headed up by The Callisto Protocol, a top-quality big-budget game that reportedly cost £130 million to make.

Other titles for the month are Weird West and Farming Simulator 22. This trio will be available to download and play from October 3.

That also means it’s last orders for September’s games, which include Saints Row, Black Desert - Traveler Edition, and Generation Zero.

Even if none of those grab your interest immediately, as ever, once you claim them, they will be available for as long as your PlayStation Plus subscription is active.

PlayStation Plus October games

The Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol was released in December 2022 as one of the year’s big hitters. It received some mixed reviews and was not a big enough hit to recoup its rather large production costs. But, if you enjoy horror games, it is one you should not miss.

The action plays out in third person, the game’s camera sitting behind your character’s shoulder. It’s an eerie and claustrophobic experience, set in a high-security prison on one of Jupiter’s moons. It is also a neat showcase for the power of the PlayStation 5. Own a PS4? No problem, it can also handle The Callisto Protocol.

You can finish this one in about 10 hours, and comes highly recommended for a trial.

Farming Simulator 22

Next up, Farming Simulator’s 2022 edition. The name tells you most of what you need to know.

Farming Simulator 22 lets you build and maintain a farm. But, instead of the cutesy style of Animal Crossing or Harvest Moon, this series aims for realism and features real-life farm equipment brands like John Deere. You have to manage your finances, sow and harvest your fields, and can run your farm co-operatively with another player.

This one is not for everyone, but some find it entirely engrossing and a pleasant diversion from violent games. It’s the kind of title you could end up plunging hundreds of hours into.

Weird West

Weird West is our last PlayStation Plus release for October. It’s an action-packed roleplaying game.

You view the Western-inspired fantasy world from way above your character, giving you a tactical perspective of the environment. Weird West sees you shoot, look, and talk your way through the stories of five characters in your team.

All three of these PlayStation Plus October games work on either PlayStation 4 or PlayStation 5, and will be accessible to all Plus members regardless of the tier to which you are subscribed.
