Doesn't this look familiar? Is that a grappling hook? What's that in Master Chief's visor? The reveal of Halo Infinite's box art has sent fans into overdrive.

Halo Infinite is finally being revealed fully later today during a huge Xbox Series X games showcase, which will go live at 5pm.

To say that Halo is gathering a lot of hype in the run-up to its full reveal is an understatement, considering the response some official artwork has had.

Teasing the game more on Twitter, the official Halo account shared an image of the game's box art, which looks deliciously similar to the first-ever Halo game.

This is almost definitely a nod from developers 343 Industries that it's aiming to do the storied series justice, putting the OG protagonist Master Chief firmly in the spotlight like the Halo games of old under Bungie's leadership.

Suffice it to say, people online were loving it and immediately poured over it with their hungry eyes.

Just three minutes after the art was shown, people noticed they could see something reflected in the gold-ish visor of Master Chief.

Speculation is running wild, with people thinking it's the new antagonist for the game, which was previously hinted to being The Banished, a mysterious and evil group of alien (Covenant) mercenaries who have cut ties from the larger Covenant civilisation.

Others think it looks like a Brute, which is a new type of Covenant aliens. They are fearsome warriors who are as brutal as they are scary.

The Halo Twitter account gladly obliged to the request of a close-up, which could mean that the reflection isn't anything important.

Master Chief's visor aside, there's plenty going on in this image, least of the semblance it bears to the very first Halo game's box art.

For comparison's sake, we've done a split of the Halo Infinite and Halo 1 art to show you what we mean.

Fans also think they've noticed what could be some form of a grappling hook attached to Master Chief's waist, which could hint towards new verticality in gameplay or it could simply be for select scripted sequences.

Either way, the buzz around the game is reaching fever pitch ahead of the official reveal later today.
