Play Google Stadia for free starting today — here's how to do it

Google Stadia Pro is going free for two months to anyone who signs up with a Gmail address.

Google announced the news due to the ongoing lockdown implemented by the coronavirus pandemic.

Until now, you had to subscribe to a Pro subscription to play games on Stadia, which costs £8.99 per month — on top of that you also have to buy games separately.

Now, anyone who signs up will get two free months of Stadia Pro with instant access to nine games, including GRID, Destiny 2: The Collection, and Thumper, which essentially makes the offer a free trial of Stadia Pro.

Here's how to get your free two months of Google Stadia Pro.

First of all, you need to go to Stadia.com to sign up using your Gmail account. Just click on the button that says 'sign up with invitation code' (you won't need one).

Once you've made an account, find the Stadia app on your Android or iOS phone and download it.

If you're using Google Chrome, you can jump right in. Find a game, click claim and it will launch in your browser.

Connect a controller or keyboard and mouse and you're good to go, internet connection speed reliant, of course.

You can also play Stadia games on your mobile device​, including Google Pixel devices and Samsung smartphones.

You can purchase even more games on the store, which will remain yours to play even if you cancel your Stadia Pro subscription.

After that, Stadia Pro is £8.99 a month, but you can ​opt-out of your subscription​ at any time to avoid paying anything.

It's important to note, however, that you'll have to buy games separately even with a Stadia Pro subscription.

Even though you do get a few free games per month with Pro — kind of like with PlayStation Plus and Xbox Live Gold — Stadia also serves as a gaming storefront too.
