With the arrival of the second wave of free summer updates to Animal Crossing: New Horizons, returning character Luna has made an appearance along with the ability to dream.

Once you've updated your game, you can now interact with your bed when you lie down in it. If for some reason you don't yet have a bed, you should have a letter from Luna which will have a present attached to it called Luna's bed.

Upon doing so, you'll be prompted by the game if you're ready to go to sleep - if you accept you'll be transported to the Library of Dreams.

Luna will introduce herself and tell you all about the land of dreams which now awaits you.

Dreaming and visiting other islands

Upon sleeping in any bed in your home, you will be transported to the Library of Dreams where you will meet the character Luna.

When in the dreamland, you will be able to travel to another player's island and it is highly likely you'll never have met this person before.

They don't need to be online for you to do this, so this isn't the same as using the airport to travel to a friends island, for example.

Instead, this is simply a dream which lets you tour islands for inspiration for your own. Anything you do in the dream world has no effect on the real-world of the game, it is simply a dream, after all.

Once your on someone's island, you can roam around and explore for as long as you want.

You will need a Nintendo Online membership subscription to use this feature.

Who Luna is and where to find her

Luna's role is to ferry travellers between dreams, allowing players to tour the islands of people who you don't know.

When speaking to her, select the option "I want to dream" and you'll be transported away.

She exists only in this role when you go to bed, and it doesn't seem like you can interact with her otherwise outside of the Library of Dreams.

Luna's second option "I'd like to share a dream" allows you to upload your own island to the library, which means others players could happen upon your island when they visit one during a dream.

That's everything, now you're ready to start dreaming and visiting other players' islands.

Also introduced in this update was the ability to backup and restore a saved copy of your island, in case tragedy befalls your Switch console. Check out the full guide here.
