You Instead - review

10 April 2012

Adam (Luke Treadaway) and Morello (Natalia Tena) are rock stars playing the T in the Park festival in Scotland in David Mackenzie's surprisingly flimsy new film.

He is already famous, she is not. So what happens when the two are handcuffed together by some loon?

You're right. They fall in love and, once the cuffs are off, Morello crowd-surfs towards Adam, performing on stage. This teeny-weeny plot is played out in the mud, booze, drugs, Portaloos and mayhem of the festival. It is excellently shot by cinematographer Giles Nuttgens - but that's the only aspect of the movie that signals Mackenzie, who made Hallam Foe, to be worth his salt.
