Thor: Love and Thunder has been given a new release date, but if you’ve already planned a Marvel extravaganza weekend, fear not: it’s only been moved by one day. The new film will now be released on July 7, so grab your popcorn, it’s going to be a ride.

The film’s new full-length trailer was released at the end of May… and it looks like Thor has got competition.

In the trailer, we see the return of friendly rock-man Korg (played by Taika Waititi), introducing a class of students to the legend of Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, and how he turned his life around after the events of Infinity War.

“After all that, he reclaimed his title as the one and only Thor,” says Korg – until Jane (played by Natalie Portman) steps in, carrying Mjolnir.

It certainly seems like Jane can hold her own against Thor: the trailer shows her wielding the god of thunder’s lightning powers and taking out bad guys with his hammer.

“What’s it been, like there, four years?” She asks him, referencing Portman’s previous appearance in the Marvel franchise, in the second Thor film The Dark World.

“Eight years, seven months and six days, give or take,” he replies breezily.

No unfinished business there then – and in a recent interview with Empire, Waititi explained that their relationship is set to be rather rocky.

“It’s been about eight years,” he said. “She’s had a whole other life, and then the love of your life comes back on the scene, and is now dressed like you. It’s a real mindf**k for Thor.”

Alongside Portman, the film looks set to see the return of Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson. Though she was last seen ruling over New Asgard, she looks set to make a reappearance in the multiverse, alongside Chris Pratt’s Starlord.

We also get a teaser of the film’s villain, Gorr: a shadowy creature with white skin.

“The only ones gods care about are themselves,” he says. “So this is my vow. All gods will die.”

The trailer then shows him plunging a sword into what looks like an asteroid or planet, and destroying it completely.

As if that’s not enough, it also looks like we’re in for a visual treat, as Waititi takes us to a location that looks very much like the space version of Olympus. And Zeus is there, because of course he is.

Fortunately, there’s now just under a month to wait until Thor: Love and Thunder hits cinemas.
