Mildly amusing: Kate Hudson, Owen Wilson and Matt Dillon
10 April 2012

Kate Hudson and Matt Dillon star in this mildly entertaining romantic comedy.

They play Molly and Carl, a newly married couple who foolishly allow the eccentric best friend of the groom, Dupree (Owen Wilson), to stay just as they are "exploring each other".

Havoc ensues, but despite nearly burning down the house with healing candles when he brings home a girl, Dupree gradually settles in and takes over. He cooks, he cleans - and he becomes best mate to the bride, too.

Michael Douglas, looking rather like a superannuated Gekko, is the bride's father - and groom's boss. He not only wants his daughter to keep her name, but seems to want her husband to have a vasectomy in case the planned children aren't up to the mark.

All this raises a few laughs but neither Hudson nor Dillon have the necessary charm or comedic flair and Wilson, though lively, appears the kind of tiresome slacker no one with any sense would let through the front door.
