The Skulls

10 April 2012

Rob Cohen's risibly incompetent thriller makes out that the secret societies on Ivy League campuses are nests of blue-blooded power-brokers all with dirty little secrets in their lockers, but capable of mounting a conspiracy to take over the USA.

An across-the-tracks boy (Joshua Jackson, still too puppy-fat to let any feeling show through) gets recruited, but quickly finds that the wad of money, the sports car, the white-tie dinners (with Gwyneth Paltrow-type babes laid on) all lead to ... the usual "heavies" on his tail and the discovery that he can trust no one, including the university provost, a character with the useful knack of snapping students' necks. Insane.
