The odd human nibble

Larushka Ivan Zadeh10 April 2012

Did you know you are more likely to get killed by a vending machine than a shark? Young writer/director/talented aqua photographer and all-round hottie Rob Stewart is on a tough but important mission in his eye-opening doc Sharkwater: not only to prove our cold-blooded friends are cuddly and misunderstood but also that they are in need of our protection.

Thanks to bad PR (Jaws), the odd human nibble and China's insatiable demand for shark-fin soup, we're now hunting sharks to extinction and no one's stepping up to defend them. As Stewart says, everyone wants to save pandas and elephants, yet elephants and tigers kill 100 people a year and sharks only manage five.

Whatever - I'm certainly treating the Coke machine with new respect. Larushka Ivan-Zadeh
