A gritty, if ultimately underwhelming, drama from Iceland, based on real events that took place in 1984. Out at sea, at night, a group of mostly hard-drinking, wryly macho fishermen suddenly find their boat sinking. It's something to do with a winch. I don't know much about winches, but, clearly, they're vital. Leading man Olafur Darri Olafsson (as decent, shy, flubby singleton, Gulli) looks a bit like John C Reilly and is very sympathetic. He's soon up to his neck in freezing cold water, talking to a flighty sea-gull. If you enjoy watching individuals being tested by nature, you'll be hooked.
