I felt nearly as indifferent to the fate of the characters in The Cave, a poor man's version of The Descent, an almost identically plotted film released recently, about a group of potholers who become trapped in an underground cave system inhabited by flesh-eating monsters.

The Cave has had more money spent on the special effects, but considerably less effort expended on the script. The usual collection of Z-list actors (including Cole Hauser, Morris Chestnut and Piper Perabo) are picked off one by one.

Since The Cave has a 12A certificate, admirers of good acting don't even have the satisfaction of seeing them decapitated or eviscerated. Neither horror nor thriller, this is a deeply mediocre example of its kind.
