Rio 2 - film review

This sequel to the 2011 cartoon hit offers a sweetly relaxed introduction to the country hosting this year’s World Cup, with a starry voice cast including Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway and Bruno Mars
4 April 2014

The timing is perfect for Carlos Saldanha’s sequel to 2011 cartoon hit Rio, which offers a sweetly relaxed introduction to the “hot” country hosting this year’s World Cup. Old friends Blue (Jesse Eisenberg) and Jewel (Anne Hathaway) find themselves in the Amazon jungle with their three kids. Also along for the ride is Nigel the cockatoo (Jemaine Clement), the applause-hungry thespian whose rap rendition of I Will Survive is one for the ages.

Bung in a demented frog, Bruno Mars and an eco-friendly sub-plot, and you have a cosy behemoth that kids (and even their parents) will find impossible to resist.
