The assassination of President Kennedy hardly needs another film to remind us of the trauma felt by almost everyone at the time. But debutant Peter Landesman successfully tries for something a little different with Parkland (the name of the hospital to which JFK was taken). He tries to tell the story of those behind the scenes, including the nurses and doctors, the policemen, the secret service agents and the man who just watched horrified with a video camera in his hand.

He seems to be saying, without undue polemics, that so many mistakes were made that it is still almost impossible to get at the truth. There’s an excellent ensemble cast which includes Zac Efron, Jackie Earle Haley, Paul Giametti and Marcia Gay Harden, and the film is skillfully taken from Vince Bugliosi’s book Four Days in November. Frightening stuff.
