On Landguard Point - film review

23 August 2013

Robert Pacitti's art film begins with him intoning, “It is widely held that the east of England is a flat land...” What follows incorporates various outdoor events that took place in Suffolk last year. We get two sets of naked breasts and a good look at someone's allotment. Occasionally, we're beckoned inside (we see a child colouring in a picture of a dog). In the meantime, Pacitti recites poetry about our country's rich soil. Did I mention that Pacitti has a flat voice? Michael Nyman's score is genuinely rousing but, make no mistake, this is a giggle fest. It's showing at the ICA. Those unwilling to offend to fellow punters should probably view it after a sombre event (the death of a loved one, perhaps?)
