Nothing artistic about Boogie Woogie

Star line up: Boogie Woogie
10 April 2012

Duncan Ward's black comedy about the contemporary art scene has Danny Huston as Art Spindle, an amoral dealer who runs a fashionable London gallery. He is desperate to get a Mondrian called Boogie Woogie from a veteran collector (Christopher Lee), but the old man's wife (Joanna Lumley) plays him off against an equally voracious dealer (Stellan Skarsgard) who is having an affair with the manager of Spindle's gallery (Heather Graham).

Gillian Anderson, Jaime Winstone and Alan Cumming also appear, while the film's "art curator" is none other than Damian Hirst. Be that as it may, the plodding direction, pedestrian cinematography and second-rate script prevent a good cast doing more than help the story along.
