Hungary's revolution

Freedom: Children of Glory
10 April 2012

When the Hungarian water polo team beat the Russians at the 1956 Olympics, there was a good reason why Hungary hysterically celebrated the win.

Though Hungary's revolution of that year was suppressed when Soviet tanks smashed into Budapest, the win somehow seemed to prove that freedom would eventually come.

Kristina Goda's film revolves round Ivan Fenyo's Karcsi, star of the team who joins the revolution, falls for a student (Kata Dobo) and gets involved in the siege of the national radio station.

Thanks to good performances it proves that Hungarians are at last able to put this part of their chequered history on the screen without fudging.
