It has been reported that a film adaptation of the hugely successful West End show, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, may be in the works – although the Warner Bros studio is denying such plans.

The New York Daily News is reporting that a ‘well-placed Hollywood source’ let slip that “Warners is secretly working on getting the movie rights and a screenplay settled.”

The Daily News also writes that their ‘Tinseltown sources’ say the film could be on the big screen by 2020.

However, Warner Bros issued a statement in response denying the report, declaring: "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is a stage play, with no plans for there to be a film."

The News source stressed that studio bosses were keen to sign Daniel Radcliffe to reprised his role as Harry. Interestingly, when asked about returning to Harry, the star recently sold The Sun: "It is a tricky one. You never want to close a door on anything, especially something that has been so good to me."

However, he added: "At the moment I am definitely not at a stage where I would feel comfortable going back to it, who knows in ten and 20 years if I would feel differently about that."

In the meantime, a Potterheads will have to make do with a film adaptation of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and the three e-books JK Rowling has promised.
