Dogging: A Love Story is depressing and tedious

10 April 2012

The title is surely contradictory. There’s not much love to be had in dogging — a procedure which men and women apparently indulge in to have sex without emotional entrapment.

They don’t mind others watching through misted-up car windows either. But not Dan (Luke Treadaway), who finds Horny Geordie Lass on the internet and decides to try his luck, largely because his real flame thinks he’s an idiot.

Simon Ellis’s film, not quite as awful as it might have been, is really about a latterday Walter Mitty, scuffing about in the morass of emotional uncertainties.

Released 26 December.
