Dog Pound paints a brutal picture of life in detention

22 September 2012

Kim Chapiron’s film about what happens in a juvenile detention centre in North America makes an eloquent point, that there’s little anyone can do to prevent bullying, gang warfare and an influx of drugs.

The film is graced by excellent acting and based on extensive research. Butch (Adam Butcher), a newcomer who won’t take much lying down, is particularly intense and the weary guards, trying to be firm but fair, are a major part of the film’s authenticity.
