Dirty Oil is deeply depressing

Canada now provides 80 per cent of America’s oil and has so far made $70 billion out of the deal.

The consequences, according to Leslie Iwerk’s well-researched film, are dire. Unearthing the oil has resulted in three times more carbon emissions than normal, despite stricter governmental controls than anywhere else.

The damage to the environment includes poisoned water, ruined grazing areas, increased susceptibility to disease and the death of many native communities in the huge oil-producing areas. Deeply depressing — and meant to be.
