10 April 2012

Double Oscar-winner Robert De Niro has been voted the greatest film star of all time.

De Niro, 60, beat Steve McQueen, Al Pacino and Jack Nicholson to the title. More than 13,000 film fans voted to find the Top 50 most popular film actors and actresses.

Marilyn Monroe was the highest female at number seven, closely followed by Audrey Hepburn, Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Taylor. Sir Michael Caine, much-loved for his roles in classics such as The Italian Job, Alfie and Zulu, was the highestranked Briton at No.10.

Hazel Laking, of Choices Video which ran the survey, said: 'De Niro's body of work speaks for itself. He has appeared in some of the most memorable movies of all time, like The Deer Hunter, Taxi Driver and Goodfellas, films that people come back to time and time again.'
