High concept

Plot Martin Lawrence plays burglar Kevin Caffrey - a 'connoisseur of all things portable' - who breaks into the mansion of millionaire Max Fairbanks (Danny DeVito), only to find that Max is in residence and has called the cops. Worse, Max humiliates Kevin by stealing his lucky ring.

All dressed up The rest of the film consists of Lawrence going through elaborate costume changes in an attempt to get even with DeVito.

Desperate Dan DeVito's character is a return to the 'evil little shmuck' roles that made his name in Eighties films such as War Of The Roses and Ruthless People - things have been a little quiet since Get Shorty.

A Redford runs through it The film's plot has been out for a run before, in 1972's The Hot Rock, a forgotten comedy-thriller with the Sundance Kid in Lawrence's role.

Farrelly fortunes The demographically important teen market is catered for with this year's must-have ingredient - a fart joke - this time around involving dogs and William Fichtner, playing a man of dubious sexuality.

Lawrence of Air-abia Some moviegoers have complained that Lawrence's face seems to have been digitally airbrushed - and not particularly well.

Verdicts 'I'd rather watch a forgotten houseplant dehydrate and die' - Village Voice. 'I don't know when a bad movie made me laugh as much as this one' Salon Magazine.
