Cold Weather has a warm ending

Bleak: can Cris Lankenau solve the mystery of his missing ex-girlfriend?
10 April 2012

Talented independent director Aaron Katz moves a little out of mumblecore mode with this quasi-thriller.

Cris Lankenau plays a college drop-out who visits his sister in a wintry Portland, goes to work in an ice factory and then becomes an amateur detective to solve the sudden disappearance of an
ex-girlfriend.

I'd better not tell you what happens, but all's well that ends well and the natural performances and bleak locations carry the film along. It's an advance on Katz's other efforts.
